Safety is a core value at Ponte Comm and our aim is that nobody gets injured as a result of our cabling installations.

The key tool in maintaining this is our OHSAS 18001:1999 certification awarded in 2005, and upgraded to OHSAS18001:2007 in June 2009. This is an international specification defining a set of requirements for an Occupational Health & Safety Management System.

The elements of this are translated into procedures enabling us to measure progress, plan improvements and ensure accountability.  The key element of the system is to eliminate or minimise risk to employees and other interested parties who may be exposed to OH&S risks associated with our activities.

Our commitment to safety includes giving employees the appropriate equipment to do their jobs, developing procedures, training and policies that encourage and promote a safety culture.

We conduct regular internal and external assessments to ensure compliance and enable continuous improvement in all aspects of health & safety performance.  Our external auditors are SGS, the worlds leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company.

In 2009 Ponte Comm was awarded BuildingConfidence Accreditation by Achilles.  Working in partnership with Bovis Lend Lease, Achilles has developed BuildingConfidence - a supplier pre-qualification and accreditation service for the UK construction industry. BuildingConfidence is quickly becoming recognised as the standard for supplier excellence within the industry. Major contractors are using the service to evaluate their supply chains, drive up performance and forge longer lasting relationships with key suppliers

	Ponte Comm has signed up to the new Health and Safety Executive (HSE) strategy, Be Part of the Solution , launched on 3 June 2009. This is designed to reduce the number of workplace accidents and take a common sense approach to ensuring that risk management is an enabler for business not a burden.
We pledge to: · Agree to play our part in reducing the numbers of work-related deaths, injuries and ill health in Great Britain. · Call on employers to put health and safety at the heart of what they do and to take a common sense approach to health and safety. · Commit to debunking myths around health and safety that trivialise the impact of injuries, ill health and deaths on individuals and their families. · Recognise the importance of health and safety in difficult economic times and the dangers of complacency. · Pledge to work with the Health and Safety Executive and its partners to Be Part of the Solution.
	Our engineers are all Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card holders. The scheme is run by the Construction Industry Training Board with a view to improving the quality of workmanship and the standards of health and safety, and is fast becoming the industry standard.
