Network Rail: UK-wide Rollouts

Network Rail planned a rollout project to equip 45 remote sites with handheld Symbol scanners, but first needed to upgrade existing WAN access on each site.

Ponte Comm was asked to complete the data cabling upgrades, and due to the very tight deadlines, to do so without the benefit of site surveys.

With effective planning, efficient management and exceptional communication, Ponte Comm’s Operations Team worked with Network Rail to ensure that the rollout was completed successfully within the 2-month timescale and to budget.

Network Rail Cognisco UK-wide Rollout Project

When Network Rail wanted to provide training areas in 43 sites nationwide they turned to Ponte Comm to complete the data cabling upgrades required.

The project was split into two tasks:

• 1. Site survey rollout of all 43 sites to identify
  • i. Existing services
  • ii. Upgrade requirements
  • iii. Site-specific requirements
  Report on finding and bill of works submitted to Network Rail for approval
• 2. Installation rollout, with works completed and site left fully functional with WAN access for Network Rail training teams use.

A high level of communication between the Ponte Comm Operations Team and each Network rail site contact, together with tight project management, ensured that the project was successfully completed to a very high standard.
