Case Studies
Robin Hood Airport
|
Robin Hood Airport, the UK's newest purpose built international Airport, commenced commercial operation on 28 April 2005. On the site of a former Royal Air Force base sits a brand new terminal, and one of the UK's longest runways. Our customer required fibre optic works to be completed onsite, and Ponte Comm provided the specialist engineering team to carry out the project. Our brief was to supply, terminate and test external multimode fibre optic cable routes at the Airport. |
|
A team of our specialist fibre optic engineers completed the works, terminating all cores of the fibres using the fusion splicing method and SC-type connectors. All cores were fully tested for functionality and dB loss using an OTDR fibre optic tester.
The project was successfully completed on time and to budget.
Isle of Man Airport
Ponte Comm has provided specialist fibre optic services to the Isle of Man Airport at Ballasalla since 2003.
|
|
This has included all fibre optic cabling relating to the taxiway expansion project, which included the relocation of the existing taxiway. Strict Health and Safety precautions had to be employed to ensure engineers were not exposed to danger from the aircraft movements around the live site.
Working in phases to co-ordinate with other services, we completed the termination of 352 x ST ends of armoured singlemode fibre links across the runway. All ends were OTDR tested at 1310nm and 1550nm in both directions. |
Other works completed include decommissioning the existing fibre optic cabling within the Old Control Tower, and installing a new fibre optic system into the New Control Tower.
All works have been very successful and we are looking forward to continuing our relationship with the Airport.
Baldonnell Airport, Dublin
Located on the southwest of Dublin, the Baldonnell Aerodrome project encompasses a 7,700m2 aircraft hangar and 4,000m2 of ancillary office space. Baldonnell Aerodrome was commissioned by the Department of Defence for use by the Irish Air Corps, and other government purposes.
Ponte Comm was commissioned to supply, terminate and test 5km of multimode fibre optic cable at the Aerodrome. Due to the route between locations the cable had to have an outer sheath capable of being direct buried, and was supplied complete with a steel wire armoured outer sheath.
The project was very successful, with our customer particularly pleased with our advice and recommendations regarding the specialist cable.
