Major Travel Agent: Grosvenor Place, London

A major Travel Agent located in two adjacent terraced buildings in Belgravia, London required an upgraded structured cabling system. Our brief was to design and install an upgraded structured cabling solution serving the two buildings, which could if required be split to allow each building's network to function autonomously.

The buildings are 7 storeys high with basement and attic, with access between the two buildings on some but not all floors. 

The buildings are Grade 1 listed, including the front exterior and several of the internal floors including the CEO's offices. 

Planning

The design required careful thought and planning by our Project Management team and very close liaison with the customer to ensure live systems were maintained until scheduled migration, and to ensure Listed Building restrictions were not infringed

A full and thorough site survey was carried out and cable routes planned and checked for feasibility.  Following constructive dialogue the plans were approved.

To ensure minimum disruption to the live office environment, the installation plan allowed for all installation works to be completed outside of normal working hours.

Delivery

To achieve the ‘dual LAN' system, we created two Comms Rooms, one in the basement of each building.  Risers were created throughout both buildings from these Comms Rooms to route fibre optic and voice backbone cabling. 

The two independent horizontal floor cabling systems were then installed within their respective buildings, linked to their own Comms Rooms via the backbone cabling.

These systems were then linked via optical fibre and voice cables to allow them to function as one.  If required, the optical fibre and voice links could be cut, leaving two completely autonomous systems.

Obsolete cabling system removed and disposed of following the successful commissioning of the new system.

Large Pharmaceutical Company: North Mymms & Berkeley Square 

North Mymms & Berkeley Square are both listed buildings owned by a leading pharmaceutical company which present their own unique difficulties in terms of designing and installing a new cabling system.  The brief was to design, supply and install a wireless LAN using Category 6 cable and components and Cisco wireless Access Points, thus future-proofing the building against further cabling works.

North Mymms is a residential training facility with many of the rooms in use throughout the week and weekend.  We worked closely with building and estate managers to ensure works were completed within specified guidelines and with minimum disruption.  A programme of works was formulated with the site management team, including built-in flexibility to change should the need arise. 

As part of our works we were responsible for coordinating other contractors to lift carpets/flooring to enable us to access or create cable routes in the office accomodation.  Many of the cable routes ran in cellars and voids under the floor, some of these areas were classed as confined spaces which meant specific risk control and Health and Safety measures.

ADC Krone Cat 6 data cabling and Cisco wireless Access Points  were installed throughout.

Both projects were successfully completed within budget and timeframe.  Our engineering team was praised for the care and respect paid to the building throughout the project.
